Emotional Freedom Tapping (EFT), also known as Emotional Release Tapping, is a self-help technique that combines elements of modern psychology and ancient Chinese acupressure. By tapping on specific meridian points on the body while focusing on distressing feelings or thoughts, practitioners aim to reduce emotional intensity and promote healing.
EFT tapping can be easily practiced on yourself, even without the guidance of a practitioner. This self-help technique allows you to take charge of your emotional well-being anywhere and anytime you need it.
While many people use tapping to manage stress, it can also serve as a powerful tool to boost performance and nurture the growth of positive habits. By integrating affirmations and intentions around success, focus, or resilience, the same tapping sequence can help reinforce confidence, motivation, and clarity.
How EFT Works
EFT involves gently tapping with your fingertips on a series of points on the face and upper body. While tapping, you focus on a particular emotion or issue and repeat affirming statements. This process is thought to help rebalance the body's energy system and release emotional blocks.
Tapping Points
The standard EFT sequence uses the following points:
-
Karate Chop Point – Outer edge of the hand (below the pinky finger)
-
Eyebrow – Beginning of the eyebrow, near the bridge of the nose
-
Side of Eye – On the bone beside the outer corner of the eye
-
Under Eye – On the bone directly under the eye
-
Under Nose – Between the nose and upper lip
-
Chin – Midway between the bottom of the lower lip and the chin
-
Collarbone – Just below the collarbone on either side
-
Under Arm – About four inches below the armpit
-
Top of Head – Center of the top of the head

Example of Tapping Script
Begin by identifying the emotion or issue you wish to address. Rate its intensity on a scale of 0–10. Then, tap the Karate Chop Point while repeating the setup phrase three times:
-
"Even though I feel anxious about this situation, I deeply and completely accept myself."
Next, tap each point 5–7 times while repeating a reminder phrase, such as:
-
Eyebrow: "This anxiety"
-
Side of Eye: "I feel it in my body"
-
Under Eye: "It's heavy right now"
-
Under Nose: "But I acknowledge it"
-
Chin: "I am safe"
-
Collarbone: "I choose to release this feeling"
-
Under Arm: "Letting go of anxiety"
-
Top of Head: "Feeling calmer now"
Repeat the sequence until the intensity of your emotion decreases.
Begin by stating what you want to achieve. Then, tap the Karate Chop Point while repeating the setup phrase three times:
-
“Even though I have not yet achieved my goal, I deeply and completely accept and love myself.”
Next, tap each point 5–7 times while repeating a reminder phrase, such as:
-
Eyebrow: "I am focused on my goals"
-
Side of Eye: "I trust my abilities"
-
Under Eye: "I invite success into my life"
-
Under Nose: "I am building new, positive habits"
-
Chin: "I am resilient and capable"
-
Collarbone: "I celebrate my progress"
-
Under Arm: "I am open to new opportunities"
-
Top of Head: "I am thriving and empowered"
Repeating this process while visualizing your desired outcomes can help shift your mindset, support personal growth, and solidify positive change—making tapping not only a way to release what holds you back, but a method for moving toward your best self.
